So the temperamental weather has taken us from gloomy to glorious in a matter of days…not that we’re complaining! But the surprise means our summer wardrobes are a little underprepared. Thankfully we’ve discovered the versatility of the simple crop top! A staple often associated with girl bands and movie stars of the 90s, the crop top has been an unexpected hit. But think more ladylike French Riviera than grunge. This time round it’s all about matching it with a high waist; a lot more flattering we say!
Full skirts have been big news this season and worn with a crop top, the look strikes the perfect balance between glamorous and edgy. We loved the matching flower print and bustier top at Dolce & Gabbana; it’s perfect for those who want to make a bold statement without flashing too much flesh. You could also tone it down with either a muted skirt or top, but if strong colours really aren’t your thing, take note from Miu Miu who went for simple from top to toe with chambray and plain black.

Prada and Nina Ricci also went crazy for the crop top, opting to pair bandeau tops with knee length pencil skirts. Definitely more of an evening look, we think throwing on a little cardigan could easily take it from the catwalk to summer in the city…or by the beach. And don’t forgot to put on some statement jewellery, we think our Daycatcher collection in zingy brights are perfect for the look…with that much shoulder on display you can afford to be as dramatic in the jewellery department as you like!
