This trend has been on the cusp for several seasons now but ss12 is proving to be the season for slouchy sleepwear. From psychedelic paisley to pretty polka dots – pajama prints were coming from all directions for ss12 and the bed references didn’t stop with the prints.
Super silky fabrics, soft tailoring, matching trouser / shirt combos, simple slips and utterly elegant smoking jacket style outerwear were the show stealers for an overwhelmingly strong list of designers. Phoebe Philo for Celine, Stella Mccartney, Raf Simon’s penultimate collection for Jil Sander and J W Anderson were the pioneers in this luxe louche way of dressing.
We’ve been a little slow to adopt this particular trend (let’s put it down to nerves) but actually after airing it in public for the first time last week, we haven’t stopped parading our pajama-inspired ensembles! It’s a surprisingly low maintenance approach to day time cool taking us seamlessly through to evening glamour with nothing more than a change of shoes and a slick of lipstick (and a bit of sparkle of course!). It’s also the perfect excuse to experiment with pattern blocking – pair some super silky slim print trousers with a matching button up shirt – tucked in to avoid the mid-section frump effect – with plain dressing dressing gown style jacket over the top for a chic look.
Or for a less literal approach to the trend team your pajama trousers with a grey jersey and platforms. However you choose to wear your pajamas make sure you keep your jewellery minimal but impactful. We think our cascades ring adds just enough glamour to take the look out of the bedroom.
